The meeting was about
boating safety, and what to expect this weekend, and what they may see (pine
snake, Pine Barrens tree frogs (may hear them), painted/spotted turtles, Timber
rattlers, deer, fox and beaver lodges). The kids have to think small, as they
are supposed to fit all their belongings in one (preferably) or two buckets that
seal shut. The buckets have to be tied into their canoes, so that if they
capsize, their belongings don't get swept downstream without them. They had
blue buckets their last night that Mr. Murphey got from his company that the
kids can get. The kids signed up for them last night, and they have to keep
them (Mr. Murphey and the troop doesn't want it back). Thing is, the kids have
to make sure they seal them properly & keep the lip of it clean. Also, they
won't get them until Friday, so they should bring their stuff in a bag and then
stuff it in when they get to the church.
They each need to bring at least 3 logs. Anlagen of water would be good. They
are camping at Goshen Pond Friday night. If they want they can research the NJ
Devil to talk about it over the campfire.
No smellables - food, toothpaste, soap, deo or anything of the sort in the
tent. Doesn't have to smell good, just interesting to attract raccoons/bears on
some other trips.
Bring some short pieces of rope to tie belongings to the canoe.
Ziploc bags are a good thing.
A ground cloth may be a good idea, in case they want to sleep out under the
stars Sat, or under canoe? & use it to help create a shelter.
Synthetics are better than cotton - dries faster. Kids don't want to get their
sleeping bags wet - will be on river Sat, and won't have time/place to dry it
out.
If they need a scout master conference, they should bring their books and get it
done this weekend.
6:00 Friday is the meeting time.
Sign up for Earth day
Jamboree money now goes to the troop council 2 slots left.
I think that covers it. If you have any questions, let me know : )
